A seven-storey under-construction building collapsed in Bengaluru's Bellandur area on Wednesday, killing two and injuring several others. A team of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has been called at the spot and local police officials had cordoned the area. The spot comes under the jurisdiction of HSR Layout Police Station. A least ten people were initially trapped when the building collapsed at around 12.35 pm., the rescue team that rushed to the spot managed to rescue six of them.

The fire department, which got the alert at 12.56 pm is yet to completely ascertain the situation. "We are clearing the debris and will know the exact situation soon," a senior officer said. ACP (East) P Harishekaran said at least three more people are still believed to be trapped inside, though they can hear the voice of only one person, who has been provided with oxygen until they can rescue him.

From the initial investigation, it was found that the building had permission for constructing ground plus two floors, however, norms were violated by constructing seven floors. Many locals had complained about the illegal structure constructed in the area but BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru MahanagarPalike, city’s civic agency) had failed to take action against the developer.
